Karimnagar


  • Karimnagar is fourth largest city in the Indian state of Telangana after Hyderabad, Warangal and Nizamabad.
  • Karimnagar city is located 165 kilometres north of the state capital, Hyderabad.
  • Karimnagar is located on the banks of Manair River, which is a tributary of the Godavari River.
  • Elagandal (located 10 kilometres from Karimnagar City), originally known as Veligundula, is a hillfort built during the Kakatiya era.
  • Karimnagar was named after Karimuddin.
  • While reorganising the districts, Mahbub Ali Khan, the Sixth Nizam, shifted the District Headquarters from Elagandal to Karimnagar in 1905.
  • The Municipality of Karimnagar was upgraded to Corporation in 2005.
  • B.R.Ambedkar Bus Station,Karimnagar is a main bus stand serving Karimnagar city.
  • Karimnagar railway station is located on the Peddapalli-Karimnagar-Nizamabad railway line.
