Nizamabad


  • Nizamabad is third largest city in Telangana state, next to Hyderabad and Warangal.
  • As of 2011 Census of India, the provisional population was 310,467.
  • Nizamabad was founded in the year 1905 when Nizam's Dominion were recognized, where up to it was known as Indur.
  • The Nizam of Hyderabad ruled over the Deccan region during 18th century, the city got its name from him.
  • It was only during 1876 Nizamabad became a separate district when the districts in Hyderabad State were reorganized by Salar Jung-I, the then prime minister.
  • In 1905 the railway line between Secundrabad and Manmad was laid.
  • The city was named after Nizam ul Mulk, the fourth Nizam of Hyderabad state.
  • The Nizam Sagar dam was constructed in 1923 across the Manjira River.
  • Nizamabad is located at 18°41′N 78°6′E.
  • Nizamabad is bounded on the north by Adilabad district, on the east by Karimnagar district, on the south by Medak district, and on the west by Nanded district of Maharastra State and Bidar of Karnataka State.
  • The National Highway 7, the longest national highway in India passes through the city which connects Varanasi  – Kanyakumari.
  • National Highway 16, starts at Nizamabad and passes through Karimnagar to Jagadalpur in the state of Chhattisgarh.
  • The Nizamabad railway station is located in the Secunderabad-Manmad section of Hyderabad Division of the South Central Railway Zone (SCR).
  • An airport is proposed at Jakranpally near Nizamabad.
  • Telangana University is a public university under the Government of Telangana, located at Dichpally, 15 km from the city.
  • Nizamabad Fort is situated on the southwest of the city which was built by Rashtrakuta Kings in around 10th century.
  • Alisagar is a park and tourist attraction which is 13 km from Nizamabad.
  • Badapahad dargah is one of the oldest Muslim pilgrim centers, located at a distance of 38 km from the city.
