Adilabad


  • Adilabad is a city in Adilabad district of Telangana.
  • It is a municipality and the headquarters of Adilabad district.
  • It is northernmost district in Telangana State.
  • Adilabad derives its name from the erstwhile ruler of Bijapur, Yusuf Adil Shah.
  • The original name of the Adilabad was Edlabad during the rule of Qutub Shahis.
  • Its name was changed to "Adilabad" by erstwhile Islamic ruler of Bijapur, Mohammed Adil Shah.
  • Mavala lake it located 6 km south side of Adilabad town. Water from the lake is supplied to the town.
  • As of 2011 India census, Adilabad had a population of 117,167. It has an average literacy rate of 43.45%.
  • The urban agglomeration population of the city stands at 139383. It includes the population figures of its constituent census town, Dasnapur as 22,216.
  • Adilabad is one of the seventeen Lok Sabha constituencies of Telangana.
  • National Highway 44 (old No NH 7) passes through Adilabad. Hyderabad is 310 km from here.
  • Adilabad has a railway station on Mudkhed-Adilabad Section.
